Crystal Times: test 2

The Story

In 2011 two friends were talking of their times at the Crystal and decided to see if there was any interest in reviving memories of the place and so started a 'Facebook' group to test peoples views and feelings for what, in it's day, was a premier venue in the midlands

The 'Facebook' group is known as 'crystal, tiffanys, brunswick, bali hai, newcastle under lyme'

The group has seen a lot of interest and that has prompted it to consider the possibility of promoting a re-opening of the building as a venue for all kinds of music including 'Northern Soul' which still has a strong local and national following

Did you know?

The site on which the 'Crystal' stands was a coal yard prior to a snooker/billiard hall being built there.

In the fifties (1958) the hall was transformed into a dance hall aptly named the 'Crystal Ballroom' to provide a venue for the then popular big band sound.

In the sixties it became a Mecca for the pop scene with it's three floors offering fantastic music and atmosphere. On offer was an eclectic mix of live and disco music.

The ballroom part of the title was dropped and it became simply the 'Crystal'

It later became known as 'Tiffanys' and eventually 'Zanzibar'

The 'Crystal' doors closed in circa 1976 and that might have ended the story except it became 'Tiffanys' and then 'Zanzibar' but the story does end with the doors finally closing for good sometime after 2000.........Perhaps not
